Pinky Promise

Do you make promises?  Do you make promises to your kids?  Do you always keep your promises??  I made a VERY important Pinky Promise with my 7 year old son last night.  It will be hard for me to keep, but I have worked hard and long on trust within our family and promises are ALWAYS kept!

Over the last week I have put in large amounts of time on the computer, updating my website, keeping active on social media, because as we know, the Holidays are right around the corner and sales are important!

But HOW important are sales?  more important than my boys? - never!  Some how in the last week, I seem to have forgotten how to balance my work / family time.  Yesterday I spent hours on the phone & computer trying to resolve a problem, which after exhausting way too much of my time, realized it is out of my hands and all I need is patience......not my strong suit.

After listening to my boys FIGHT over a bath towel last night - the anger in my older son was very evident.  He wasn't angry over the towel, but he was angry about something or at someone.  I needed to find out what the problem was and talk about it with him

After calming down, my son told me how hurt he was because I have been spending WAY too much time on the computer.  At this point, I had 2 choices:

1.  Tell him all the reasons (excuses) why I have been on the computer so much
or
2.  Listen to him, agree with him and come up with a solution

I chose number 2, so here is our solution:

1.  I am not allowed to work on the computer before we leave to go to school (he is not allowed to watch TV so it seemed only fair).
2.  I am not allowed on the computer after he gets home from school.  This time is to be used to hang out, work on homework, play, have a snack etc.  The only EXCUSED reason to be on the computer after school is to process orders.
3.  He needs to tell me when he gets frustrated instead of keeping his feelings in and then taking them out on his younger brother.

After our talk and rules we "PINKY PROMISED".

Yes, I am a business woman, But I am a MOTHER first and foremost.
