A courteous Mother

Are you a courteous Mother?  September is National Courtesy Month.  Let's make a pact to ALL be courteous Mothers and be role models for our kids!

What does courtesy mean?  In my opinion it is an act of kindness, respect for others and being nice.  I am the Mother of 2 outgoing, adventurous boys - they are typical boys, they love to run, jump, play in the mud - yep - BOYS!  My goal is that they are always courteous as young boys through adulthood.

I am very fortunate to have excellent role models.  My Mother, Grandmothers & Great Grandmother were & are amazing, courteous and kind women.  They share the over abundances in their gardens, they send hand written notes to friends that are hurting, they listen and even the touch of their hands can calm children - yes, I've had excellent role models.

With my boys, I try to model good behavior (although, admittedly, I'm not perfect!) and I can see with my own eyes it is wo
rking.  They are both kind and courteous boys.  Just this morning, while typing this article, my 3 year old brought me a Starbucks (R) Frappacino from the refrigerator without me asking - he is one kind boy!  He must have just known it was what I needed!

We have 6 rose bushes in our yard, our older son likes bringing roses from home to school for his teacher, not for any special reason - just to share.  He is kind and generous at school, church and even at soccer.  I am so proud of both of my boys!

When my boys are grown up, I hope there are 3 lessons they have learned from me:

1.  Work smart and be proud of your work
2.  Be generous, kind and genuine to all people
3.  Have fun - laugh, sing, dance, travel, play

Let's go out and show our children just how courteous we can be!

Sometimes I feel more crazy then courteous I agree it is important to be strong role models to our children and also in the community. I always cringe when a mother sets an example that is not always the best way for a child to learn.

Trust me, we ALL have bad Mommy moments - but they can also be turned around into a positive by explaining that even Mommies have bad days and how can we fix it.  I am sooo not perfect, but I try my hardest and it really is all a mother can do!
