Polish Pottery Names vs. Numbers
If you are a Polish Pottery fan, then you have noticed on many websites that sometimes patterns have names, sometimes numbers. I am hoping to clear up this mystery for you.
The first thing you need to know if that the factories DO NOT name the patterns. They are numbered and each factory has their own set of numbers. So even between the factories, common patterns have different numbers.
Quite a few Polish Pottery businesses prefer to name their patterns. If you look at my shopping site, you will notice some patterns are numbered and a few are named. I am more of a numbers person, so I prefer to keep the pottery numbers consistent, that way it is easier for me to track etc. Just to give you an idea on how confusing this can be, here is a common pattern:

Names: Old Poland, Nature, Mosquito
Numbers: 11, 70
See how confusing this can be? If you are interested in purchasing just a few special patterns, find out from the vendor what factory it was produced in and what number the factory has given the pattern. This way, when you are looking around the internet, you will know exactly numbers / names to look for.
I hope this helps in your Polish Pottery shopping! Enjoy
