What is Unikat?

What is Unikat?  In polish Unikat (phonetics   oon - ee- cot) means Unique in the English language.  That is exactly what Unikat Polish Pottery is - totally unique patterns.

In most of the factories, there are a handful of top Artists.  These artists are given "free reign" so to speak, to create their own signature pattern, one that is their own.  These pieces are each signed (sometimes stamped) with the phrase "Unikat" on the bottom and signed by the artist.  There are fewer of these items produced and therefore are more valuable (if you ever want to sell them).  They are just as usable as traditional patterns, safe for use in the dishwasher, microwave, oven and freezer.

One factory W.R. Unikat ONLY produces Unikat patterns.  Most of their items are signed by the artist (sometimes the items are just too small to stamp or sign).  While most factories produce both traditional and Unikat patterns.

These pieces are more expensive, but the patterns are exquisite.  At Peacock Pottery, I carry a few Unikat items,  Stop by our shopping site to see what we have to offer.
