What is Polish Pottery and why is it so special?

The town of Boleslawiec is over 750 yrs old and founded under German rule.  It is located in the region of Silesia near the Bobr River approximately 25 miles from the Poland / Germany Border.  Boleslawiec is known as “The town of good clay”.  Boleslawiec prides itself on its handmade, hand painted Pottery made by artisans from the area.  Some of the pottery dates back to the 7th century and can be seen in museums.  Most of the modern day pottery pieces date back to the 16th century.

Pottery from Boleslawiec is created using a white clay specific to the area.  It is free from lead.  According to historians, the artists were inspired by the beautiful Peacock feathers.  As you will notice, the main colors of the pottery are cobalt blue and green, being taken from the Peacock coloring.  Some of the designs used are also influenced by the peacock – the dots represent the eyes, some brush stokes also represent the feathers.  The paint & glaze used by the artists is also cadmium free.

The artist painting the pottery use either a hand cut sea sponge (from the Baltic Sea) or free hand with brushes.  These products are not mass produced using machines, each piece is unique.  The pottery from Boleslawiec is special because it is made by people with great artistic ability and passion, which shows through their work.

There are many factories in Boleslawiec and the surrounding area, but the best in the industry is Boleslawiec Ceramika Artystyczna.  All of our wholesale products are from Ceramika Artystyczna and quality 1.  Only the best!

What are the selling points for my customers?

Polish pottery is not only beautiful, but it is durable and user friendly!  Each piece can be used in the dishwasher, microwave, oven and freezer!  All pieces are chip resistant – durable enough to use everyday, but pretty enough for dinner parties and entertaining with friends or family.  The products mix and match beautifully because of the blues and greens in each piece.  As I was told while living in Warsaw, Poland – “Mix and match your patterns to create a happy table” and although I was skeptical at first, I am so glad that I did, I love all the different patterns and it most certainly does create a “happy table!”
