A short lesson on Boleslawiec.  First of all, let's practice on how to pronounce it phonetically:  Bowl - ah - swa -veets - now doesn't that just roll off the tongue?  This town has been in existence for over 760 years, although depending on the year, it was also part of Germany and the name was Bunzlauer.  So, throughout history you will find Bunzlauer pottery or considered early earthenware.

Boleslawiec is known as "The town of good clay" and ranks among the most scenic towns in Lower Silecia.  It is located in the southwestern part of Poland.  It is approximately 25 miles from the Polish - German Border.

During the early  Bunzlauer era,  most pottery was created for farm and kitchen use such as crocks to hold sauerkraut, cheese, pickles.

Boleslawiec prides itself on its hand made, hand painted pottery.  The history of the pottery making dates back to the 7th century.  The artists from the region were inspired by the Peacock feathers leading to the blue & green decorations and the eye of the Peacock stamp.

The pottery from Boleslawiec is special because it is made by people with great artistic talent and passion.
